Man charged with murder in teen’s death

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE)  The man accused of driving drunk and crashing into a 17-year-old’s car and killing her was charged with murder Monday morning.

Jeremy Washington, 35, was in court Monday morning to hear the charges against him.

The Allen County Prosecutor’s Office filed the murder charge on Friday, along with three counts of criminal recklessness.

Police said Washington was drunk when he crashed his car into Haley Nellum’s vehicle in March. Nellum was a sophomore at Bishop Dwenger High School.

Police said he was driving more than 100 mph when the crash happened.

Police said Washington fired a gun at an SUV outside the Corner Pocket Pub just before crashing into Nellum.

His trial is scheduled to start on October 27, 2014.
