Norwell wins sectional championship

OSSIAN, Ind. (WANE) – The Norwell Knights won a sectional championship Saturday afternoon on the team’s home field.

In 3A, Norwell won on it’s home field, with a 12-0 win over Columbia City. The Knights did most of their damage in the first inning, where the team scored nine runs. Norwell sent 11 batters to the plate before Columbia City recorded the first out.

The Knights had the bases loaded after three batters, that was due to a single by Norwell’s Caitlin Herndon.  The junior had hit a hard ball to the fence in left field, just fair of the foul line.  The runs would come from there.  Alissa Hanni and Tiffany Williams would knock in the team’s first three runs.

At next week’s regional, Norwell (19-8) will host Yorktown (26-6).  First pitch is set for Tuesday, June 3 at 7 p.m.
