DECATUR, Ind. (WANE) – Defending 3A state champion Norwell survived a sectional scare against Bellmont, using a four-run fifth inning to best the Braves 5-4 on Friday night.
Norwell’s Brandon Burch’s RBI single scored Reggie Hayes in the bottom of the fifth to tie the game at two. Later in the inning Ryan Tomlin drilled a three-run home run to left field, giving Norwell a 5-2 lead they would never relinquish.
In the nightcap at Bellmont it was Heritage over Mississinewa 5-0. Bellmont’s Branson Dossen got the Patriots on the board in the top of the first with a sacrifice fly that plated Cole Gerardot. Heritage didn’t score again until the sixth, but tacked on four insurance runs in the sixth and seventh combined to set the final.
