FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – Huntington North used a perfect game, Carroll used some timely offense, and Eastside took advantage of opportunities as the Vikings, Chargers, and Blazers each won a sectional softball title on Thursday.
Huntington North blanked South Side 12-0 in five innings to win the Homestead regional. University of Kentucky signee Erin Rethlake threw a perfect game, striking out 13 of the 15 batters she faced.
The Vikings advance to regionals next Tuesday night at 7 p.m. when they travel to play at Carroll. The Chargers beat NHC rival DeKalb 4-1 on Thursday to win a sectional title. Carroll scored three runs in the top of the seventh to break a 3-all tie. Carroll starter Katy Guebard allowed just one run while striking out nine in a complete game.
In Butler the Blazers turned a handful of Lakewood Park miscues in the third inning into three runs en route to a 5-1 victory. Eastside improved to 27-4 and will now play at Bremen next Tuesday at 7 p.m. in regionals.
