ANGOLA, Ind. (WANE) – 3A no. 7 Leo edged 3A no. 16 Bishop Dwenger 2-1 to earn the third sectional softball title in program history Wednesday night at Angola high school.
Leo got the board in the top of the second inning when Morgan Finton’s fly ball to deep left popped out of the outfielder’s glove, scoring Lindsey Bowers.
In the third Leo added to the lead when a fielder’s choice by Robyn Hall plated Brooke Imel, giving the Lions a 2-0 advantage.
Dwenger pushed a run across in the bottom of the sixth when Bailey Rupley drove home Ali Irvine with an RBI single, cutting Leo’s lead to 2-1.
However, Bowers would settle down on the hill for the Lions, closing out the victory for Leo with a scoreless bottom of the seventh.
Leo advances to face the winner of the Fairfield sectional next Tuesday at regionals.
