Canterbury Tops Carroll 4-1 For Tennis Regional

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – No. 10 Canterbury topped 23rd-ranked Carroll 4-1 for the girls regional tennis title Wednesday at Homestead high school in a battle of two of the state’s top 25 teams.
Canterbury’s Leah Barnes defeated Rachel Sutton at no. 1 singles 6-1, 6-2. Sutton ends her season with a 23-2 record. Her 89 career victories are the most in Carroll program history.
At no. 2 singles Canterbury’s Chelsea Himes won in three sets.
Carroll’s lone win came at no. 1 doubles, where Makenzie Schoeff and Taylor Stanchin were victorious.
Carroll ends the season with a 17-4 record.
Canterbury improves to 18-1 on the season and advances to semi-state Saturday hosted by Concordia. Wednesday’s win earned the Cavaliers the fourth regional title in program history.
