FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE)  One of the state’s largest high definition outdoor signs is now on display along U.S. 30 just west of Fort Wayne.

Leaders at Sweetwater Sound unveiled the giant message center Tuesday afternoon. It stands 15 and a half feet tall, is 28 feet wide and contains 1.4 million 12mm LEDs. Sweetwater plans to use the sign to promote the company and welcome visitors to Fort Wayne.

Sweetwater president Chuck Surack said it was inspired by a huge sign that many Hoosiers would recognize along I-69 north of Indianapolis. “We made several trips down toward Indianapolis and looked at the big, tall Nestle bunny. We had all kinds of mock-up drawings of everything from guitars and keyboards and microphones on end and we thought about doing that, but we were a little worried about technology of the products changing, unlike the Nestle bunny. Finally we decided that an electronic sign would be more flexible and do more for us,” Surack said.
