Northrop Clinches Girls Track Regional Championship

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – Northrop used a strong showing in the relays to earn another girls regional track championship on Tuesday night at Spuller Stadium.
The Bruins won the 4×400 and the 4×800 in addition to placing second in the 4×100 to tally 69 points as a team.
Homestead finished second with 52.5 points. Madison Distelrath won the 1,600 meters for the Spartans.
Concordia came in third at 51 points thanks to double-winner Symone Black who placed first in the 100 & 300 meter hurdles.
Bellmont (48 points) placed fourth as a team, as Holly Hankenson led the Squaws by winning the long jump at 18 feet, 8 inches.
Huntington North came in fifth (42 points), while North Side was sixth (37 points) despite Dymond Morris winning the 100 meters, finishing second in the 200 meters, and anchoring the first-place 4×100 relay team.
Carroll Sara McKeeman (last year’s state champion) won the pole vault at 12 feet, helping the Chargers to a seventh-place finish as a team (32 points).
Katie Monk of Churubusco stole the show in the throws. Her mark of 151 feet, 2 inches in the discus set a new regional record. Monk finished second in the shot put as well.
The girls state finals are next Friday in Bloomington.
