Group looks to expand trails system

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) –  Fort Wayne has more than 80 miles of trails. Folks on the southeast side are working to add more.

Right now only one mile of trail goes through that area of town. Saturday, a community forum at JT’s Soul Food got the community’s input on the Urban Trails Project. Organizers say adding more trails to the area has many benefits.

“Excitement for the Urban Trails to take place is actually contagious. The Urban Trails is going to be an asset to our community and provide that safety and provide that family time and provide wellness and health and also beautify our community,” said Diane Rogers with the Oxford Street Association.

The project is still in the early planning stages, but organizers hope the trail will first focus on Hanna Street. provides commenting on many stories to allow for constructive discussion.
