Indy 500 race weekend arrives

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — The 98th running of the Indianapolis 500 is Sunday, May 25.

Ahead of that, a weekend of events is planned at the track and around the city.

Coors Light Carb Day kicks off the weekend Friday, May 23, marking the final practice before the 33 drivers take to the track Sunday.

The annual event will host Rock & Roll Hall of Famer Sammy Hagar and reggae rock group Sublime at its annual concert.

Saturday, May 24, the annual IPL 500 Festival Parade will be held downtown.

The winner of this seasons ‘The Voice’ competition, Indianapolis native Josh Kaufman, will serve as Grand Marshall; Jim Nabors will serve as Honorary Grand Marshall.

The 98th running of the Indianapolis 500 is Sunday, May 25.

Gates at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway open at 5:30 a.m. Sunday; the race begins shortly after noon.

Last year, Tony Kanaan won his first Indy 500.

This year, for the second straight year, Ed Carpenter is on the pole. In 2013, he finished in 10th place.
