STEUBEN CO., Ind. (WANE) – Hundreds of people are expected to be on Lake James for Memorial Day weekend. Businesses prepare for this weekend days, even months in advance.
The Corner Landing Bait and Tackle Shop has been near Lake James for 17 years. The building was torn down and rebuilt this past fall to offer more convenient items for visitors.
“We do have groceries now at our facility we didn’t have before,” said Kirk Bowers, manager of the store. “We’re trying to make it convenient for everybody around here not have to run into town little items if they don’t have to.”
From convenient shops to restaurants, Lake James visitors will have some options. Tom’s Donuts and Coney Connection have been planning and prepping food all day Thursday for the Memorial Day weekend. Colleen Sayler, manager of both restaurants, said they plan to stay open 24 hours this weekend through Monday to keep up with demand.
“We have to get a jump start on tomorrow because people will start buying things faster than we can have it,” Sayler said. “It’s a good problem to have.”
Businesses near the lake start to see business taper off right after Labor Day. Most close up for the year after that.
