Dems choose Gerardot to run against Carbaugh

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE)- A caucus of precinct committee officials in Indiana House District 81 elected Thad Gerardot to serve as the Democratic nominee for the seat Wednesday night, according to the Indiana Democratic Party.

Gerardot will face incumbent Republican Rep. Martin Carbaugh in the November general election.

A party spokesperson said Gerardot is a Fort Wayne native who still lives in the city and works at Lincoln Financial helping people make decisions related to their retirement.

According to the party’s news release, Gerardot also has a psychology degree from IPFW, has been active in the local LGBT community, and recently worked for Freedom Indiana, the group that successfully lobbied to keep a constitutional amendment banning gay marriage from going before voters in 2014.

This is his first run for political office.
