Suspect charged in stabbing that left woman critical

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – A woman was critically hurt after being stabbed at an apartment complex Tuesday night, according to Fort Wayne police.

Emergency personnel were called to the Arbors of South Towne Square Apartments at 7911 Decatur Road around 11:45 p.m.

Investigators said a man and woman were involved in domestic disturbance in a second floor apartment that led to the woman being stabbed. The woman was initially transported by paramedics in serious condition but was later downgraded by hospital staff to critical condition.

City police spokesperson Officer Michael Joyner said the woman suffered multiple stab wounds. The man inside the apartment, 49-year-old Dale J. Fransioli, was detained by officers and questioned about the incident by detectives. Fransioli faces charges aggravated battery, a class B felony; battery with a deadly weapon, a  class C felony; and criminal recklessness, a class C felony.

Police at the scene said Fransioli called 911 after the stabbing. Joyner said the Fransioli and woman are in a relationship but are not married.

Police have not released the name of the woman.

Information on the type of weapon used in the stabbing or if a weapon was found inside the apartment was not available.

The incident is under investigation.
