Truck driver trying to direct traffic killed on I-70

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – A crash early Wednesday closed Interstate 70 near the Indianapolis International Airport. Indiana State Police confirm one person was killed in that crash.

Westbound I-70 from Interstate 465 was closed while police conducted their investigation and worked to clear the wreckage. Motorists still had access to the airport by way of the airport and Ameriplex local collector.

Preliminary reports indicate around 3:50 a.m. two passenger cars crashed near the 71 mile marker of I-70. The drivers of those two cars were not injured.

Investigators say a truck driver pulled over and attempted to direct traffic around the crash and was struck by another semi.

Around 6 a.m., there was another crash reported nearby, in the eastbound lanes of I-70. At least three cars were involved in that crash.

The westbound lanes of I-70 were re-opened to traffic around 7:40 a.m.
