FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) An influential member of the Fort Wayne community passed away on Friday. 95-year-old William J. Hefner was known for contributing his time and resources to numerous causes in northeast Indiana. He owned Hefner Chevrolet for more than 30 years. He was also a WWII veteran, serving in the U.S. Army Air Force from 1942 to 1945.

William J. Hefner, 95, passed away Friday, May 16, 2014 in Fort Wayne. Born in Van Buren, IN, William owned Hefner Chevrolet for more than 30 years. He served in the U.S. Army Air Forces (Air Corps) from 1942 to 1945. Mr. Hefner has been an influential member of the Fort Wayne community for many years. He had a passion for business and giving back to the community. He also enjoyed traveling and old cars. Surviving are his wife of 73 years, Bonnie; granddaughter, Aimee (Joseph) Myers of Fort Wayne; great-grandchildren, Sydney and Joseph David Myers; and sister, Joan (Raymond) Spalding of Marion, IN. William was preceded in death by his parents Chester and Marjorie Hefner; son, David James Hefner; brothers, Kenneth and Lawrence Hefner; and sister, Madonna Booth.
Service is at 1:30 pm, Wednesday, May 21, 2014 at – D.O. McComb and Sons Covington Knolls Funeral Home, 8325 Covington Road with calling 1 hour prior. Rev. Jeff Lehn officiating. Calling also at – D.O. McComb and Sons Covington Knolls Funeral Home, Tuesday, May 20, 2014 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm & 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm. Entombment in Greenlawn Memorial Park.
