FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – A Fort Wayne native created a documentary about the U.S. Army’s 8th Infantry during World War Two.

Ben Atkinson, director and producer of “Following the Golden Arrow”, has a personal connection to the infantry. His grandfather, Captain Lewis L .Atkinson, who was in the 56th Field Artillery Battalion, was the inspiration for the project.

Ben Atkinson traveled to France, Luxembourg, Belgium and Germany in August 2013 going through every small village where the infantry went. The 8th infantry landed on the beaches of Normandy on July 4,1944 working their way to Germany

Lewis Atkinson provided a great deal of personal history and photos for the project.

So far, the filmmakers have raised $2,231 through their Kickstarter page. The money will help cover the DVD production costs and film festival entries.

There will be a screening of “Following the Golden Arrow” at the Fort Wayne Cinema Center on June 6 at 7:30 p.m. and June 7 at 2:30 p.m.
