Bus hits, critically injures runner

FISHERS, Ind. (WANE) A woman is in critical condition after a bus hit her Saturday morning.

Just after 6 a.m., the Fishers Police and Fire Departments responded to a motor vehicle crash involving a pedestrian in the 11700 block of Olio Road.

According to police, a school bus was attempting to turn northbound onto Olio Road from an entrance/exit to a shopping center located just north of 116th Street. Erin Harris, 34, of Fishers was running northbound in the crosswalk when the bus hit her. FPD said David McCollum, 69, of Indianapolis was driving the bus.

Harris was transported to IU Saxony Hospital and later to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. She is in critical condition.

The crash happened as many people were preparing to participate in the annual Geist Mini Marathon.

Police said it does not appear that drugs or alcohol were a factor.
