Colts Sign Fifth Round Pick Jonathan Newsome

INDIANAPOLIS – The Indianapolis Colts today signed outside linebacker Jonathan Newsome.

Newsome was selected by the Colts in the fifth round (166th overall) of the 2014 NFL Draft. In two seasons at Ball State, he competed in 23 games and totaled 116 tackles, 16.5 sacks, 24.0 tackles for loss, one interception, two forced fumbles and three passes defensed. He spent the 2009 and 2010 seasons at Ohio State and participated in 18 games, playing primarily on special teams.

As a senior in 2013, Newsome was an All-Mid-American Conference (MAC) first-team choice, a three-time MAC West Division Defensive Player of the Week and was named to the Rotary Lombardi Award and Ted Hendricks Award Preseason Watch Lists. For the year, he started all 12 games and totaled 64 tackles, 8.0 sacks, 11.5 tackles for loss, one interception, two forced fumbles and two passes defensed.
