Colts Draft Ball State DE Newsome In 5th Round

Ball State log

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Indianapolis selected Ball State defensive end Jonathan Newsome in the fifth round of the NFL draft Saturday.

The 6-foot-3, 236-pounder was taken No. 166 overall. He started his career at Ohio State and could move to outside linebacker in the NFL.

It’s been a long weekend for Indy, which didn’t have a first-round pick Thursday. The Colts waited another 2 1/2 hours Friday before choosing Ohio State offensive lineman Jack Mewhort in the second round. Indy closed Friday by taking Ole Miss receiver Donte Moncrief in the third round, No.90 overall.

Indy, which didn’t have a fourth-round pick either, endured another long wait Saturday before taking Newsome.

The Colts have one pick in each of the final two rounds, Nos. 203 and 232 overall.
