FORT WAYNE, IN. – The Komets battled the visiting Cincinnati Cyclones into extra time for the second consecutive game of the ECHL Eastern Conference best-of-seven semifinal series Saturday night at the Memorial Coliseum. This time the Fort Wayne home crowd of 5,353 took home a win when they exited the building.
The Cyclones opened the scoring at 9:16 with the only goal of the first period when Matt Tinordi (F) found the net for his first goal and point of the playoffs. Logan Shaw (F) scored his first of the playoffs to give Cincinnati a 2-0 advantage at the 1:00 mark of the second period. The Komets finally got on the board with Christian Ouellet’s (F) third tally of the post-season at 2:38 to finish the second-period scoring.
The Komets scored the only goal of the third frame at 14:19 when Shawn Szydlowski (F) potted his fifth goal of the playoffs to tie the game at 3-3 and send it into extra time for the second consecutive game.
At the 5:22 mark of the overtime stanza Fort Wayne defenseman Jordon Southorn lit the lamp with a blast from the point that deflected off a Cincinnati defender and into the net behind goaltender Rob Madore to seal a Komet 3-2 win and knot the series at 2-2. (Gamesheet)
