Komets Fall 3-2 In Double OT To Cincinnati

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Komets faced the Cincinnati Cyclones in game 3 of the ECHL Eastern Conference Semifinals Thursday night at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum in Fort Wayne, a game that produced another fantastic finish.  The game was tied 2-2 after regulation and then took two overtimes totaling an extra 31 minutes, 25 seconds of play before the Cyclones finally solved Fort Wayne goaltender Ben Meisner on their 36th shot of the game to capture the win 3-2 and secure a 2-1 series lead.

After a scoreless first period, Cincinnati claimed the second period as 15 Cyclones shots yielded two goals for a 2-0 lead at the end of 40 minutes.  Josh Shalla (F) was first to score at 13:38 before Zach Budish (F) found the net 32 seconds later to send the game into the second intermission with Cincinnati leading 2-0.

The Komets turned the tables in the third period, out-shooting Cincinnati 20-3 and rallying with a pair of goals by Shawn Szydlowski (F) and Mike Embach (F) to knot the game at 2-2 and force extra time.

The first overtime of 20 minutes produced no scoring as Fort Wayne out-shot Cincinnati 8-7.  Both teams battled evenly in the second overtime until the Komets were called for a delay-of-game penalty at 10:55.  The penalty set up the first power play of overtime and the Cyclones capitalized with Shalla’s second of the night and ended the fifth-longest game in the history of the Komets in Fort Wayne at a total time of 91:25..

Meisner finished with 33 saves on 36 shots while Cincinnati’s goaltender Rob Madore earned the win stopping 49 of the Komets’ 51 shots.  Gamesheet
