Trucker pleads guilty in fatal US 30 crash

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE)  A semi truck driver who slammed into a line of cars in 2012 pleaded guilty to some of the charges against him on Thursday. Five people were injured and 4-year-old Abbie Little died in the accident.

55-year-old Gary Golay pleaded guilty to the following charges in connection to the fatal July 2012 crash at US 30 and Kroemer Road:

  • Reckless Homicide, Class C felony
  • Eight counts of Criminal Recklessness, Class D felonies
  • False Informing, Class A misdemeanor
  • Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulation Violation, Class B Infraction

Golay will be sentenced on July 11.

Golay said he tried to brake before hitting the stopped vehicles, but it was too late. However according to the court documents, the semi truck’s computer showed no braking before the crash.

Receipts, gate times, and other data in the truck computer also indicated that Golay did not take his required rest time for the two-days before the crash.
