Company closing Portland facility, 44 workers affected

PORTLAND, Ind. (WANE) – Hartzell Air Movement announced it is relocating its Jay County operations to its headquarters in Piqua, Ohio later this year.

The company filed a notice through the Indiana Department of Workforce Development.

Employee layoffs will begin in early July and end by Sept. 30. The company said 44 workers will be affected and the job losses will be permanent.

Hartzell Air Movement runs several operations in Piqua. The company’s website said it manufactures industrial and general ventilation fans for several industries. The company produces fiberglass and rapid ship products in Portland.

In 2011, the company expanded globally and set up operations in Singapore. In 2012, the company invested in a major expansion of facilities and products.

The company was founded in 1927.
