Man tells police “I’m tired of being arrested” after jumping from car

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – Police arrested a man who put up quite a fight.  It all started shortly after 1 a.m. Thursday.  Someone called police to report a suspicious vehicle occupied.  The caller said a small four door silver car was parked across from their house, and a man kept getting in and out of the driver’s seat, into the back seat, and then back into the driver’s seat.  They also reported seeing a lighter.

An officer pulled up behind the car with a spotlight on and walked up to the 2005 Saturn Vue.  As the officer walked up to the car, the driver pulled away.  According to court documents, the officer jumped back into his car and turned on the lights and siren.  The driver of the Saturn was speeding, blew through several stop signs, and eventually headed toward a grassy lot near the intersection of Rodgers Avenue and Redwood Avenue.  The officer saw the man who was later identified as Jawan Jordan jump out of the driver’s side door while the car was moving.  Jordan ran off.  The officer chased after him yelling “stop police!” Apparently Jordan was not alone.  The officer took into custody Jordan’s passenger.

A K-9 unit tracked down Jordan.  He was hiding in the backyard of a home.  Jordan was arrested and taken to St. Joe Hospital where he was treated for a dog bite.

Jordan later admitted to driving the Saturn, fleeing, and running off.  He told police he did it because he was tired of being arrested for being a suspended driver and because he had successfully ran from police before and wanted to see if he could do it again.  Jordan also said he was hiding from police after running on foot that he could hear the police radios and the police searching for him.

Jordan was taken to jail for charges with resisting law enforcement in a vehicle, resisting law enforcement on foot, and driving while habitual traffic violator.
