WLAX: Indiana Tech Pegs Belote As New Head Coach

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Indiana Tech athletics department is proud to announce that John Belote has been chosen as the next head coach of the Warriors women’s lacrosse program. Belote spent the 2014 season as the men’s goalies coach and women’s recruiting coordinator.

“We are thrilled to have Belote join the Warrior family as a head coach,” said Athletics Director Martin Neuhoff. “We feel that coach Belote can make a smooth transition into the women’s game and have an immediate impact after spending last season on the recruiting trail.”

Belote is originally from Florida and played collegiately at the University of Tennessee where he was the goalie. He also spent the 2013 season as the head coach of the Homestead High School boys lacrosse program where he has served the last four years.

Belote was named Indiana High School Coach of the Year in 2006 and the program has won two State Consolation Tournaments He has over 30 years of lacrosse experience and still participates in league play today. He has been an instructor at Bill Pilat’s “The Goalie School,” and is a member and officer in the Indiana High School Lacrosse Association.

Belote is also the co-founder of Summit City Lacrosse, which organizes leagues as well as middle school camps. He has worked with the YMCA to organize elementary school camps to work with kids at the grass-roots level.

“I’m excited for this opportunity to take over a national contender,” said Belote. “I have a vision for the program and the years ahead. We know that we are going to see a lot of personnel changes in the coming seasons and my plan is to build a program that can maintain sustained success year after year. We will create a program and a style of play that is built around the personnel we have and our goal is to continue the rich tradition of success that has been given to me.”

Belote is the father of two goalies, Amanda, formerly of Homestead High School and Indiana University, and Christian, also a Homestead High School graduate and the current goalkeeper for Purdue University. Belote also works as an Orthopedic Sales Representative.
