INDIANAPOLIS (WANE) – More than 30,000 people took part in this year’s One America 500 Festival Mini Marathon in Indianapolis. One of those people was a man from Fort Wayne who broke his leg during the race two years ago.
Mark Bloom broke his leg at mile six of the 13.1-mile race in 2012. He kept going, but ultimately couldn’t go on at mile 12. He had to stop his race just a mile from the finish line.
He wasn’t healed enough yet last year, but Saturday he went back to start and finish the race. This year he did it with all bones still intact.
“When we got to the track where got cut in front of last time I thought about it and was careful running around small groups of people. When we hit mile 12, I thought that’s where I ended it last time. I finished two races today was a good last mile,” Bloom said.
Bloom said he plans to sign up for the 2015 Mini on Sunday.
