Hundreds participate in Walk to Cure Diabetes

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – More than 30,000 Americans are diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes every year, and hundreds spent Saturday morning walking to find a cure. The one mile walk raises money for research and awareness.

NewsChannel 15’s Gina Glaros served as the emcee. Organizers expect to raise around $65,000 from the event.

“There is a tremendous amount of research that’s being done to cure Type 1 Diabetes, and really, this is a celebration today in Fort Wayne of all the people who have come together and raised a lot of money to speed that process along,” said Nancy Carr with the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.

Nearly 500 people participated in Saturday’s walk.
