First outdoor festival of the year celebrates sunshine

Sol Fest 2014

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – Sol Fest is back at Fox Island County Park. It’s a celebration of sunshine and outdoor living. It raises funds for the Allen County Parks Youth Scholarship.  The scholarship helps underprivileged kids attend summer day camp and learn through field trips to Allen County Parks.

The festival features live bands, a beer garden, and activities for families.

“This is the first outdoor festival of the year, so these days there is a whole lineup throughout the summer, and we’re the first. This is the best weekend to get out to Fox Island. I mean it’s great all year long. We’re open year-round, but the wildflowers are in full bloom, lots of birds and wildlife active, great music, and great food. It’s just a good weekend to be out,” said Ron Zartman, the Allen County Park & Education Manager.

Sol Fest starts up again Sunday. It goes from noon until 7 P.M. Tickets are $5 a person. Kids 11 and younger get in for free. provides commenting on many stories to allow for constructive discussion.
