EACS names Teacher of the Year

L to R: Superintendent Dr. Ken Folks, Teacher of the Year Gail Alexander, and Principal Matt Widenhoefer.

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE)  East Allen County Schools has named its Teacher of the Year. Superintendent Dr. Ken Folks surprised Gail Alexander with the award Thursday afternoon.

Alexander is a 23-year veteran and teaches English at Heritage High School. School leaders say she also collects and looks at data to help drive instruction at EACS and serves as a mentor for students.

“My primary goal is to inspire my students,” said Alexander. “By winning an award like this, it helps my students help to strive for their goals, too.”

“She’s a very humble person who always seems to go above and beyond. She works all of our athletic events. She’s here after school tutoring kids.. before and after school,” said Principal Matt Widenhoefer.

Alexander will now enter the state competition for Teacher of the Year.
