Police: Woman hid 172 baggies of heroin in underwear

STARKE COUNTY, Ind. (WANE) – Indiana State Police said a woman ate 10 baggies of heroin then stuffed the rest of them in her underwear before she was pulled over for a traffic stop.

Police said Kelly A. Koranda, 36, of Logansport,was pulled over for a traffic infraction on US 35, just south of 500 North, in northern Starke County on Thursday morning.

Officers believed Koranda was impaired on drugs or alcohol after seeing her behavior during the traffic stop. She was taken to the hospital for a blood and urine drug screen.

At the hospital, a nurse saw that Koranda had been hiding drugs in her underwear. Police found 172 baggies of heroin on Koranda, weighing around 36 grams.

Koranda admitted to police that she ate 10 packets of the heroin before she was pulled over.

Koranda was admitted to the hospital for observation due to the ingestion of the drugs. She was arrested after she was released from the hospital on Sunday.

Koranda is facing the following charges:

  • Dealing a narcotic drug
  • Possession of a narcotic drug over three grams
  • Maintaining a common nuisance
  • Operating while intoxicated on a controlled substance

ISP said Koranda was taken to the Starke County Jail.
