DeKalb County, Ind. (WANE)   A semi and a pickup truck careened off U.S. 6 in DeKalb County Friday morning when one of the vehicles tried to make a left turn while the other vehicle was passing it.

According to the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department, Nicholas Crager, 18, of Kendallville was traveling east on U.S. 6 when he stopped abruptly to make a left turn into a driveway.

However Crager didn’t notice that a semi driven by Charles Adkins, 52, of Marshal, Michigan was already in the process of passing him as Adkins had just seen two other semis pass the pickup.

Crager told police he didn’t see the semi as he turned left, forcing both vehicles off the road and into a ditch.

Crager was treated and released for minor injuries at a nearby hospital.  Adkins was not injured in the crash.

The pickup truck was totaled, while Adkins semi sustained an estimated $10,000 in damage.

Traffic was disrupted for about two hours while a two truck removed the vehicles. provides commenting on many stories to allow for constructive discussion.
