ALLEN CO., Ind. (WANE) – Walkers and bikers that travel up and down Bass Rd. will soon have a new trail to do their activities on.
Allen County Commissioners have planned a stretch of trail that will start at Hillegas Rd. and extend a few miles ending at Scott Rd. INDOT will help with extending it over the bridge that’s over Interstate 69. Susan Hirschelman lives nearby Bass Rd. She said as a driver, she’s had some close calls with running into people on the road.
“It’s been tight,” she said. “It’s always worrisome when you come close to someone riding a bicycle.”
Nelson Peters, Allen County Commissioner, said this is a project that’s been a long time coming. He said there’s growth of individuals moving to that side of town; they don’t have a sidewalk or trail to access points of destinations nearby, such as Buckner Park.
“This will provide pedestrian-friendly travel for those individuals who don’t want to take car and want to go to the park, who want to enjoy the outdoors,” said Commissioner Peters.
The project will cost $600,000. It will be completed in 2016.
