FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – A former Kohl’s cashier has been charged with felony theft after an investigation determined she had given customers nearly $3,000 worth of free merchandise over the span of about a month and a half by intentionally not ringing up items.

According to an affidavit for probable cause, Aisha Essix, 20, was seen giving away the merchandise by a loss prevention officer at the Kohl’s located at 1410 Apple Glen Boulevard, across from Jefferson Pointe.

The loss prevention officer then told a Kohl’s district manager. The transactions had also been recorded on surveillance video.

Police estimated the transactions totaled more than $2,900 between October 27 and December 12 of 2013.

On Wednesday, Essix was charged with theft, a class D felony.
