FORT WAYNE, IN. (WANE) – Winning conference player of the year honors as an offensive tackle is a rare accomplishment. Making an NFL roster after a career of NAIA college football may be even more rare. Cam Edwards has already accomplished the first – he’s pushing harder than ever to achieve the second.
Edwards – who earned All-American honors as a senior offensive tackle at Saint Francis – is training four days a week in hopes of earning a shot at the pros. His massive 6-foot-3 310-pound frame will unquestionably be his ticket. The Indiana native dwarfed the competition he faced in the Crossroads League in 2013 and matched up favorably with Division 1 prospects while training in Atlanta last month.
The Cougar standout is a skilled pass blocker and says his primary focus leading up to the draft is to continue to get stronger while remaining quick, and improving hip flexibility which is pivotal to success as an offensive lineman. Currently Edwards is projected to go undrafted, but is hopeful he will get an opportunity to showcase his talents in a training camp.
