Recycling up 47 percent from four years ago

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – People in Fort Wayne celebrated Earth Day Tuesday to raise awareness of environmental concerns.

City officials said you can help by taking advantage of Fort Wayne’s recycling program. 81 percent of people living in Fort Wayne take part in the city’s program, which is up from only 34 percent just four years ago.

Leaders said as more people recycle, Fort Wayne gets more money back from the program, and the city can continue lowering garbage and recycling rates

Building rain gardens is another way to help the environment, because it eliminates standing water and filters the water before it runs into our rivers. If you’d like to take part in a free rain garden workshop, just call the Fort Wayne City Utilities office at (260) 427-2526 or click here. provides commenting on many stories to allow for constructive discussion.
