FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE)  The grand opening for a food retailer that’s new to the Fort Wayne market has been scheduled for May 7.  Earth Fare will occupy the former Scott’s Food store located on Dupont Road near the intersection with Coldwater Road on the city’s north side.

Earth Fare describes itself as one of the largest natural and organic food retailers in the country with more than 30 stores in the Southeast and Midwest.  It’s one of the only supermarket retailers to ban high-fructose corn syrup, artificial fats and trans-fats, artificial colors, flavors and preservatives as well as antibiotics and synthetic growth hormones in fresh meats and dairy products.

The store will feature local and organic fruits and vegetables, a full-service meat, seafood and poultry department along with a cheese department and an on-site bakery.  There will also be a body care and supplement department.

Earth Fare already has three stores in Indiana with locations in Greenwood, Carmel and Noblesville. provides commenting on many stories to allow for constructive discussion.
