GAS CITY, Ind. (WANE) – An inmate at the Grant County Jail was found unconscious and not breathing by correctional officers Monday afternoon.

Indiana State Police is investigating the incident at the request of the Grant County Sheriff’s Department.

According to ISP, officers found inmate Brandon Miller, 27, Marion, hanging from a wall handle in his third floor jail cell at 3:19 p.m.

Officials said Miller never regained consciousness and was pronounced dead a short time after being found. A preliminary investigation by state police indicated Miller committed suicide.

Miller had been incarcerated since an early morning arrest on April 18 for an outstanding warrant out of Gas City. ISP said the warrant was for failure to appear for driving while suspended.

The incident remains under investigation. provides commenting on many stories to allow for constructive discussion.
