Komets Drop Game 2 At Reading, Series Even

READING, PA – Saturday night the Komets fell 4-2 at Reading as the Royals evened the best-of-seven ECHL Eastern Conference Quarterfinal series at 1-1.

Fort Wayne and Reading swapped goals in the first period.  Sean Wiles put the Royals up 1-0 on the power play at 8:51.  The Komes answered with a sharp wrist shot from Shawn Szydlowski, his second of the series, at 18:26.

After a scoreless second period, Reading’s Brandon Blandina broke the tie at 15:51 of the third stanza to give the Royals a 2-1 lead.  Josh Brittain tallied his second of the playoffs at 18:51 after Komet goaltender Ben Meisner surrendered the crease in favor of an extra attacker.  19 seconds later Komet defenseman Jordon Southorn scored from the point at 19:10 to pull the Komets to within one again at 3-2.  But after the Komets pulled Meisner a second time, Reading’s Kevin Walrod found the empty net at 19:55, his second point of the night after dishing an assist on Blandina’s tally, to seal the 4-2 victory for Reading.   Gamesheet

Netminder Riley Gill earned the win for Reading making 18 saves on 20 shots while Fort Wayne’s Meisner suffered the loss stopping 27 of 29 shots.

Fort Wayne was 0 for 2 on the power play while Reading was 1 for 2 with the man advantage.

The series switches to Fort Wayne for games 3, 4 and 5.  Game3 is slated for Thursday, April 24 at 7:30pm.  Game 4 will be played Friday, April 25 at 8pm and game 5 is Sunday, April 27 at 6pm at the Memorial Coliseum.
