in a five-run hole in Game 2, but the Crossroads League-leading Trojans bounced back to thwart the Lady Cougars’ upset plans to win 8-6 in nine innings on Good Friday.

The Trojans, who dropped a pair of games to Spring Arbor University on Thursday, won the first game at Lady Cougar Field 7-2.

In Game 2, USF (10-22, 7-15 CL) scored three times in the first, once in the second and twice in the third to open up a 6-1 lead. TU (34-11, 20-6 in the CL) scored once in the top of the third, four times in the fourth and tied the game in the sixth with a solo run. USF had runners and second and third with two outs, but Meghan Thomas took a called third strike and in the top of the ninth, TU scored twice to hand senior pitcher Jackie Beilfuss another tough-luck loss.

Alyssa Keller led USF on offense in Game 2 with a 3-for-5 day at the plate including a two-out double in the eighth. Taylor Gearhart was 2-for-5, Alyssa Kumpfmiller 2-for-4, and Abby White 2-for-4. Stephanie Whitman knocked in two runs with her 11th double of the season and Gearhart had the other USF RBI. Beilfuss surrendered 13 hits, eight runs, six earned, walked one and struck out four, but slipped to 2-9 despite her eighth complete game this season.

Lauren Ehle delivered the two-run single to right-centerfield with two outs in the top of the ninth for the Trojans. Morgan Allison and Mackenzie Hiers homered for TU, which outhit USF 13-12 in Game 2, 11-4 in Game 1. USF stranded 12 base runners, TU seven.

TU broke open a tight one-run duel in Game 1 when the Trojans scored four runs on four hits and two errors on the top of the sixth. The Trojans scored three times off USF starting pitcher Heather Zengler in the third inning, but USF scored twice in the bottom of the fourth to tighten up the score. USF left two runners stranded in the fourth and four in the game. Abby White also doubled in the seventh with two outs, just the fourh hit of the game for the Lady Cougars, who are 3-11 at home this season.

USF closes its eight-game homestand on Sat., April 19 with a doubleheader against Indiana Wesleyan University at 1 p.m.
