FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – An early morning shooting caused a Chapel Oaks apartment bathroom to flood after a bullet hit a toilet well. Police said if the bullet had entered the building a foot in another direction, it would have gone into the mattress the victim was sleeping on.

According to the Fort Wayne Police Department, a woman was awakened by gunshots in her apartment in the 900-block of Oaklawn Court, near Hanna and Buchanan.

An officer said there were around six bullet holes in the siding of her apartment. There was also a hole through her wall and the toilet well in her bathroom was broken. The officer said water was running onto the floor, flooding the bathroom.

Officers found 10 shell casings scattered in the Chapel Oaks apartment parking lot.

A neighbor told police he saw two men running through the complex. He said the men jumped into a tan Chevy Impala with dark tinted windows and took off.

The incident remains  under investigation.
