Pufferbelly Trail closer to expanding

Pufferbelly Trail

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE)- The Pufferbelly Trail is one step closer to expanding in northern Fort Wayne.

Fort Wayne Trails announced Thursday that it has reached an agreement with developer Mike Thomas. Under the deal, the Pufferbelly Trail will be allowed to go through part of the new Whisper Rock subdivision, of which Thomas is the developer.

Once it’s completed, the new stretch of trail will run between Gump Road and Hathaway Road, eventually connecting with the Rivergreenway.

“The Pufferbelly Trail is actually a statewide visionary trail that will cross four counties, so we are collaborating with Wells County and Fort Wayne as well as Allen County to get this trail connected for thousands and thousands of people,” said Lori Rose of Fort Wayne Trails. “So what we are doing today is really preserving that connectivity.”

During the summer months, an estimated 15,000 people use the Pufferbelly Trail.
