FORT WAYNE, IN. (WANE) – Former IU basketball legend and current UCLA men’s basketball coach Steve Alford was in Kendallville Wednesday night. The Hoosier legend was the guest speaker at the Kendallville Area Chamber of Commerce Annual Dinner Banquet.
The New Castle native recently completed his first season as the head coach at UCLA, leading the Bruins to a 28-win season and a berth in the NCAA Tournament Sweet 16. The 28 wins ties a program record for most by a first-year head coach at UCLA.
Among the topics discussed by the former IU All-American was how playing in Bloomington helped prepare him to lead a storied program like UCLA. Alford also reflected on his memories of growing up playing basketball in Indiana and his vision for continuing to build the Bruins into a national power once again.
