LOGANSPORT, Ind. (AP) — A judge has sentenced a 78-year-old man to 55 years in prison for fatally shooting a neighbor after what authorities say was an ongoing dispute over drainage problems at their northern Indiana properties.
Three members of shooting victim Dave Schroder’s extended family testified during Tuesday’s court hearing before a Cass County judge sentenced Loren Fry.
A jury convicted Fry last month of murder charges for the 2011 death of the 76-year-old Schroder, who was found shot twice inside his vehicle near his home in a rural area outside Logansport.
The Pharos-Tribune reports (http://bit.ly/QpdPr4 ) Fry testified briefly Tuesday, saying his age meant he didn’t “have much longer to live.”
Robert Schroder asked the judge to disregard Fry’s age because of the impact his father’s shooting death has had on his family.
