FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – Police said a man who fled the scene of a crash blamed the drugs found on him on his dog.

On April 8, police said Joshua M. Wolf, 22, hit the rear of another car in the 1400-block of W. Washington Center Road. After Wolf hit the car, he made no attempt to stop and fled the scene to a nearby Meijer.

According to an affidavit for probable cause, police found Wolf’s severely damaged car in the store’s parking lot with the airbags deployed.

When police found several Diazepam tablets on him, Wolf told officers the drugs were for his “chocolate lab who was afraid of storms.”

Police said Wolf was driving on a suspended license. Wolf also has two prior convictions on his license for No Financial Responsibility. He told officers his car was not covered by any insurance.

On Monday, Wolf was charged with the following:

  • Possession Schedule I, II, III, or IV Controlled Substance
  • Driving While Suspended (Prior within 10 years)
  • Failure to Return to Scene of Accident Resulting in Damage to Attended Vehicle

As of Monday afternoon, Wolf was listed in the Allen County Jail.
