INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – An Indianapolis man is dead and a 5-year-old boy is still unaccounted for after a cabin fire in Tennessee.

Pastor Christopher Armstrong of Mount Vernon Community Missionary Baptist Church said Ricky Hudson died while on a family vacation in Sevierville, Tennessee. Hudson and his wife were the patriarchs of the family. He was a long-time member of the church.

On Saturday, Police dispatchers received the call around 4:30 a.m. from Cabins at the Crossing. WVLT in Knoxville, Tenn. reports when crews arrived, the three-story cabin was engulfed in flames.

Armstrong said Hudson was first to notice the fire and began getting his family members to safety. He helped them over a second floor balcony to another male family member who had already jumped to catch others. It was approximately a 12 to 15 ft. fall.

Armstrong and other church leaders drove to Tennessee to pick up the family. The family’s vehicles were destroyed in the fire so they had no other way to get home. When the church group got to the hospital, authorities and the Red Cross had already provided assistance like food and clothing.

Hudson’s wife is still in a Tennessee hospital. The boy unaccounted for is Hudson’s grandson.
