FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – A fire damaged The Philmore on Broadway on Saturday evening. Fire crews responded to a call before 7 p.m., but got the fire under control in less than twenty minutes.
A witness said she smelled smoke from her nearby home and called 911 immediately.
“We come out of the yard, and we look down the alley, and we all we could see was black smoke. It was just rolling everywhere. It was coming out the back first, and by the time I got across the street, it was coming out the top. I mean it was just rolling every place,” said Melissa Howe, who lives close to The Philmore.
The Batallion Chief on scene told NewsChannel 15 that the fire possibly started in the kitchen, but the cause is still under investigation. There were no injuries, and nobody was inside during the time of the fire. The building has heavy smoke damage.
The Philmore is located at 2441 Broadway.
