Komets Beat Evansville 4-3 To Clinch Playoff Spot

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – The Komets scored three goals in the third period to edge Evansville 4-3 on Friday night and clinch the eighth and final playoff spot in the ECHL’s Eastern Conference.

The Komets gained some momentum just 45 seconds into the second frame when Mike Embach banged home a rebound off an Aaron Clarke shot to cut Evansville’s lead to 2-1. It was Embach’s 28th goal of the season.

In the third period the Komets would again strike early. 38 seconds into the period rookie Scott Fleming would light the lamp for his 16th goal the season, knotting the game at 2-2. Seven minutes later Christian Ouellet would score, giving the Komets a 3-2 lead. However, Evansville would strike back at 9:54 when Daultan Leveille would find the net to tie the game at 3-3.

With just 2:55 remaining in regulation Ouellet again would find the net, this time on a power play, to give the K’s a 4-3 lead with his 10th goal of the season.
