Police: Gang member arrested during traffic stop


FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – Fort Wayne Police Department officers said they arrested a gang member during a traffic stop on Sunday after finding several stolen guns in his car.

Police said SirThomas M. Billingsley, 21, was driving without his headlights on near the intersection of Canal and Berry Streets when a FWPD officer pulled him over.

When the officer checked Billingsley’s driver’s license, he realized Billingsley had been involved in several shootings and other crimes in Fort Wayne.

Police said they found two handguns under the driver’s seat in Billingsley’s car. Both guns had been reported stolen, one in 2007 and one in 2014.

After checking Billingsley’s records, police confirmed he was a convicted felony and does not have a valid gun permit.  Police said Billingsley does not have a valid driver’s license either.

According to court documents, Billingsley is facing the following charges:

  • Carrying Handgun Without License-Prior Felony
  • Two counts of Receiving Stolen Property
  • Knowingly or Intentionally Operating Motor Vehicle Without Ever Receiving a License
