FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – An early morning shooting that injured one appears to have been a narcotics transaction gone bad, according to a police report on the incident.
Fort Wayne police went to the 400-block of East Wildwood Avenue at about 1:44 a.m. on Thursday after getting a 911 call that a person had been shot.
Investigators said a man was shot in the hip while either inside or near an SUV near the intersection of East Wildwood and Lafayette Streets.
When officers arrived on scene, the man was inside a home with several other people. He was taken to the hospital in an ambulance with non life-threatening injuries. His name has not been released.
Police said the man did not provide much information as to who shot him or why. A woman inside the vehicle during the shooting was not injured.
The SUV had several bullet holes in the hood and when police inspected it see if the bullets had gone through the car, they saw baggies of what looked like marijuana or spice in the center console. The SUV was impounded by police.
Neighbors told police they heard several gunshots.
The incident is under investigation.
