(Fort Wayne, IN) Goaltender Hannu Toivonen made 44 saves in the game but the Walleye fell 2-1 Sunday evening in Fort Wayne. Toledo has an overall record of 21-43-3-2 and is 10-21-3-1 on the road.
The Walleye would strike early as CJ Chartrain followed the play into the Komets zone and jumped on a rebound to score his third goal of the season just 22 seconds into the first period. The Komets would even the game at a goal apiece when Brandon Marino sent a back handed shot past Hannu Toivonen at 1:50 of the second period
“It was nice to get off to a very quick start tonight,” said Head Coach Dan Watson. “We figured they would come out trying for a fast start and we withstood that. Toivonen did an amazing job to give us an opportunity with his stellar play.”
The Komets would collect a 2-1 lead at 9:35 of the third period when Chris Auger beat Toivonen with a wrist shot from the right circle. The Komets outshot Toledo 46-19 in the game.
